Addictions and Substance Use
Relational Psychotherapy and Counselling
Substance use is widely understood to be a surface problem, with pain, trauma, and distress at the root. Addiction counselling includes addressing the suffering that leads to substance use, while at the same time working to stop the deeply ingrained habits. This approach combines in-depth psychotherapy with knowledge of detox, rehab and treatment centres.

If you are exploring seeking therapy for an addiction, you are already working towards positive change. For many people their addiction is a crutch, a support, and a source of pleasure and reward. The problem starts when it begins to interfere with their lives, health, and relationships.

Addiction therapy approaches the both the harmful habits and the underlying sources. It presumes that the behaviour serves a purpose, and the habit cannot be effectively changed unless the purpose is served by another means. This can mean working on personal or relationship goals, trauma treatment, and self-care and communication strategies. These behavioural goals are in the context of exploring pain and struggles around relationship and intimacy, childhood, and grief and loss.
